From my experience in interracting quite often with a beagle and my parents' from having one, I say this dog is perfect for somebody that wants an extremly friendly dog. His personality depends, of course, on what you want from him and how you train him, but I don't quite see this kind of dog being a fearceful guard dog. He is more like a lovable, adorable companion. He doesn't need special care, he needs only the kind of care that any medium size dog requires.
Before buying a dog, any dog, not necessarily a beagle, you have to make sure thou that you will have the time to fulfill his needs, the most important one being walking him daily to keep him happy. I love playing with Booboo, but I can't picture myself having a dog while I live in a flat.
