They have long floppy ears, like to chase rabbits, have a sweet disposition and seem to wiggle in perpetual happiness. They are little hounds with big hound voices. The beagle is an ideal dog for children, families, and families with multiple dogs. They are also escape artists so sometimes this is not the best breed for city dwellers and elderly or inactive owners. Beagles are great with other dogs, have been known to tolerate a cat, love to snuggle and want to sleep right next their human. A fenced yard is an absolute must and regular exercise and playtime will keep a Beagle happy and healthy. As with any short-coated hound, cold climates are hard on this breed so an indoor/outdoor home is necessary.
