The Beagle Nose

My little beagle Sydney was a gift from my husband, he got her from a breeder when she was a puppy and really there is nothing cuter than a beagle puppy. Beagles are an interesting breed, they are cute and loving, but they are hunting dogs and their noses tend to get them into trouble.
Sydney could smell a rabbit a mile away and keeping her contained was always a challenge. Originally we were using an underground fence, but she figured out that once she went through, it stopped zapping her, so she would deal with the pain for a minute and then she was off. She even chased a bear! All 20 pounds of her. We then went to a radio collar system that zapped her anytime she was out of radio range, this worked much better once she learned being out of her zone would hurt. Because she was so hard to contain, she wore an extra collar with our phone number embroidered into it, and it did save her cute little bacon on one occasion.
Beagles are great family pets, she would like you for as long as you would let her and loved to cuddle with the cats. The one other thing you should know about beagles is they are LOUD! They howl, yip and bark at everything and anything.
