My family received Petey from a family member who's dog had just had puppies. Petey is part beagle and very smart. He was a very friendly dog in the beginning, however, as he was taunted by other people in the house, he came to only trust a few people. To this day, there are certain people that he will come to immediately and be friendly with. Everyone else, he stays away from, and if he doesn't know them, he will growl and bark. We keep children away from him because he cannot be trusted to be nice, especially if they're getting in his space. He does not like people he doesn't know or trust to be around him. He is very protective of the people he trusts, and if people get too close to those people, he will also bark and growl.

Petey is a very kind dog to those that he trusts and loves. He is loyal. He loves to be petted and cuddled. He likes playing around on the floor with people, but can become very tense and upset if the wrong people try to join in. He's a great watch dog. If there is anything going on outside, he will alert the house. He barks a lot and can be intimidating to delivery trucks or anyone who is not familiar with him.
