Long-lived, Funny, Sweet Dog

We had Shadow since she was a pup. Her mom was purebred Beagle. Dad was, I think, "Boo Boo Bear" - a local mutt her mom liked. She lived 16 years and at the end had some trouble seeing and hearing and some achy joints - but overall she was a trouble-free dog.

She liked to run, like her mom, and learned to climb a tree to get over our fence.

She was tenacious. At nearly two years old, she survived being hit by a car, dragging herself most of the way home before collapsing in a friends yard. Aside from those vet bills, her health was very trouble-free.

She was smart - smart enough to act dumb whenever we tried to teach her something. She loved to eat almost anything...anything except the canned dog food she was once on a test panel for. Turned up her nose at that food!

One place we lived, a squirrel in the tree above her doghouse loved to drop seeds and leaves on her. She barked at that squirrel for three solid days until she got hoarse! After that, she studiously avoided noticing the squirrel trying to get her attention. Rarely barked otherwise, except to alert us to someone at the door, or to "sing along" with us.

Great dog!
