A Beagle as a Family Dog

We got my beagle, Emma, when I was just a kid. She was a wonderful family dog; gentle and loved to be petted (except when she was eating). She was a very even-tempered dog and rarely barked. In addition, she was relatively easy to train and had very few accidents inside the house, even when she was a puppy. When she was a puppy, she had a lot of energy and loved to play fetch and run around. Once she got older, however, she was very lazy and only wanted to lay in the sun and be petted. She was very good with our two cats, in that most of the time she completely ignored them. There were only two downsides to her: she was a bit smelly and she had health problems later in life. Overall, I would say that she was a wonderful family dog, especially with children and other pets, and is low maintanence in terms of training and activity level.
