My Basenjis

Since I was six years old, I've had Basenjis for pets -- Brandy and Sammy. Many people don't like them because they are not the typical even-tempered, gentle "big dogs" (retrievers, etc), but they are so lovable with friends and family and will always greet you with a big yodel. They are barkless dogs, so yodeling is all they can do! Sometimes when Sammy gets annoyed/aggravated though, he makes a little "woof" sound which is actually adorable. They know basic tricks -- Brandy learned better than Sammy did (she is a female and her mother was a show dog) -- she can sit, stay, come, up, and down. Sammy can sit, and that's about it. They're getting older in age but are generally healthy dogs -- Sammy has a heart murmur which we've treated with daily medicine for the past few years, but for the most part the two of them still act like puppies.
