My experience with this breed has been very pleasant. I have never trained one for hunting so I can't speak to that aspect, however the thing that strikes me most with these dogs is their sweet personalities. They are gentle and usually fairly low key. Don't let that fool you into thinking they won't drive you crazy with their hound bark though! Especially if they live outside, like many unfortunately do, they bark at most noises and "sound the alarm. I've seen and worked with many dogs of this breed and while most have never been properly socialized with people or other animals, they typically do very well with everyone regardless. They are usually very healthy dogs as well and live well into their teens.
