My American Akita Penny

I acquired my american akita about two years ago from a friend who was moving. I was begged by my girlfriend at the time not to get her as she had heard that their temperament is somewhat unstable. Fortunately she turned out to be completely wrong.

Penny is caring and has been very easy to train. I
had her sitting, giving me her paw and lying down in about in just a couple of days.
She is wonderful with kids and she becomes very excited when the kids in my
local area come to see her. My akita is
also great with other dogs and I've been able to take her to dog parks with very few incidents.

I have definitely read some bad reviews on this breed of dog but in my experience, american akitas are a very good, easy to train breed with an excellent temperament.

The only negative I could mention is that Penny is a terrible guard dog and loves seemingly everyone who comes through my door. If you're looking for a breed of dog for home protection, this is not the breed for you!
