I owned and bred several malamutes for show and Bear was my stud dog that also competed in obedience trials and some sled dog work. It was a lot of fun, albeit a bit challenging to own him and the other malamutes. They have some special needs, dealing with warm weather is a little difficult, the shed like crazy and grooming them when they are "blowing coat" is like starting a fur blizzard (always best done outside). They are incredibly smart, but very opinionated, they were bred to be able to lead a dog team many feet in front of a handler/driver, so they had to be able to make their own decisions in some cases... that makes them a real challenge in the obedience arena, but they can do it, and do it well when they want to.
