I have had 2 experiences with Alaskan Malamutes running away. One of them came back (several times) and the other was unfortunately lost, for good. I believe that this breed of dog is not a good match for city life; they have too much energy to expend! They are beautiful dogs, just give them enough space to roam and they should be just fine. Watch them around smaller dogs and cats; they have a lot of energy and can take play time too far, in my experience. They do require some brushing.
