I found River through a newspaper add. A man was selling her puppies, but also wanted to sell her because he was moving. When I saw her and her puppies, I immediately wanted her. She was in terrible condition, covered in fleas and very skinny, but she looked very kind, caring, and had a gentle soul. I didn't pay much for her, as it was an "adoption fee" and I am still not certain as what her breed may have been. I know she had both husky and malamute in her. She was an amazing dog, in every way. If you can imagine the perfect dog, it would be her. She was beautiful, gentle, loving, affectionate, fun, happy, caring, friendly, graceful, the list could go on and on. She used to make funny woo woo and other sounds that we loved. She was a dog you could take to the beach, on a hike, go in the snow, or just lay around in the house. Her only negative thing was she did have a pretty bad prey drive, she pulled on the leash, and she loved trash. She eventually died because of a complication from heart worms. Her condition was too far gone to treat, so we had to "wait and see" basically. I did try getting a 1/2 husky 1/2 malamute mix after her, and she was a terrible dog. However, I believe she may have been badly bred. She was also very kind, friendly, loving, etc., and had a very good personality, but there was just something wrong with her in the head, you could see it in her eyes. She was also more difficult to train then River was. She was stolen out of our yard one day while she was out to potty, and I never saw her again.
