My husband desperately wanted a cat, but the kids had allergies; and the allergist told us they would likely develop new allergies to cats if we got one. My coworker told us about her hypoallergenic Siberian cat. I researched that and ended up mail ordering her from another state. They sent her by air in a crate and I had to go pick her up from the airport.
What a smart cat she turned out to be. She loves water. We have to keep the toilet lids closed or else she'll come to use all wet. Eew! She greets all the visitors and rubs herself all over their shoes. She learned to open the latch on doors just by watching us do it. She used to open the crate for my old dog when we crated her. We'd come home and the dog was wandering all over the house.
Is she hypoallergenic? I'd say yes. There have been so many people coming to our house saying they were allergic who had no reaction whatsoever. They'd be surprised we have a cat. My brother is very allergic. With a former cat, he'd start reacting the minute he stepped through the door. With this cat, it takes about an hour for him to start tearing up and sneezing.
My husband said if we ever get another cat, it will be a Siberian.
