Smoky Made Me a 'Cat Person'

Smoky showed up on the porch of a cat-hater...me. I couldn't run the little blue ball of love off. He just kept coming back. Wonder of wonders- I found myself feeding him. Smoky literally chose me as his owner.

Since a very bad experience with a devil cat had soured me against felines, I was amazed to find myself bonding to this cat. Smoky had a beautiful, sweet personality. Often, he would jump up on the bed and 'talk' to me. He was pushy when he wanted attention and would not take 'no' for an answer.

Smoky was also the best mouser I have ever seen. On occasion, I would notice a mouse in the house. Smoky would too. At night, I would hear a single squeak. The next morning...nothing. No dead mouse on the floor. No evidence. Nothing. I honestly don't know if he ate them or what. I just know that I loved the way he got rid of them.

Smoky was very playful. He loved to chase grasshoppers in the yard. He also was devious. He would hang on the side of the sofa and wait for our chihuahua to come around the corner. Then he would pounce on Tinsy, rolling him into a ball. It made Tinsy furious but we thought it was hilarious.

Smoky was hit by a car one night. I don't think I have ever cried that hard over an animal. To this day I still miss my Smoky.
