The Fluffster

When my 3 year old daughter asked me for a kitty I had my doubts that it would be the appropriate pet for a toddler. Further more my cat Shadow had been with me for 10 years and was not exactly welcoming to other animals in his space. Despite all my doubts little Smokey joined our family at 8 weeks old and the little bundle of fluff has had a profound impact on all of us.

Shadow took a day to get used to the new comer and the two have been best of friends since. My daughter learned to be gentle when handling her and to take responsibility for the health and wellbeing of her kitten. The two of them play for hours on end filling the home with endless laughter and a good dose of mischief.

Smokey has a very curious and playful nature, which has lead to trouble from time to time. She can get herself stuck in awkward spaces in a rather un-catlike manner. Chewing inappropriate things like electric cable (even when we supply plenty of alternatives) is another favourite activity, so we have been mindful to make her space safe.

I would not recommend this type of cat for pest control, Smokey has not displayed any talent for hunting. However as a companion and playful friend for a child we could not have wished for better.
