I have had the pleasure of taking care of not one, but two of these gorgeous creatures! Their luxurious coats, laid back attitude, and their size are the staples of Maine Coons. I took care of a friend's kitten (about 14 months) and older (4 years) Maine Coon for a summer and I fell in love with them instantly! From my understanding, they are professionally bred, so they're a pretty penny if you're thinking of getting one; finding one to adopt will be a little difficult to find. Just remember: they're larger than your typical domestic short hair, and all their fluff adds to their size. They are so soft too if you keep up your care of their coats. You may want to trim or shave them during the summer if you live in hot or humid areas. The kitten had so much energy, more than my domestic shorthairs I've owned, and I don't know if that's typical, but she was a blast!
