I have known 2 Balinese cats who had very different personalities. One of them lived in my family, another one was its sister who lived in the family of my friend. Both of them were tender, snuggling and very sociable kittens, but as they grew up the sister of my cat completely changed and turned into a small fury. Since its adolescence, it never let my friend caress it and revealed its wicked character. For instance, it used to attack legs of people walking in the hall, which it probably considered its territory. Moreover, it didn’t get on well with the second cat stayed in their house.
My family was much luckier with our Balinese Lika. It had a quite steady and adequate character, but still it was more wilful (I would even say somewhat wild) and brave than other cats I have known into my life. Anyway, it was a great experience: as a child, I had a lot of fun with Lika, all my family adored and even respected it. Our Airedale, whose food it used to steal, was afraid of the cat.
Overall, it is an extremely beautiful, elegant, graceful and intelligent cat, which can become its owner’s best friend. On the other hand, I don’t think Balinese is a good choice for families with small children, it can also have problems with other animals. Finally, it is a very sociable and “talkative” cat and it will always seek your attention. I would not recommend leaving this cat alone for a long time.
