Acquired: Other (stray, given cat by friend etc.)

Over the years I have had many cats. Their personalities are as varied as their coat colors, but by and large the vast majority have been friendly, outgoing, and laid-back kitties who love to play and be part of the family. There have been a couple of exceptions such as the ones who were strays or had been badly traumatized and were always a bit shy or nervous around strangers, but they were loved and encouraged to interact but never forced to do so. The American Shorthairs are hearty, generally healthy, active, playful, and communicative but not TOO vocal, meaning they do "talk" and vocalize but not incessantly. They are friendly and enjoy the company of other cats and some enjoy other species as well. This depends more on the personality of the individual cat than breed, in my opinion. They are loving and loyal, though some may be content to just "hang out" in the same room with their people, and others may insist on occupying the first lap which becomes available. Whatever type of kitty you are blessed with, enjoy him/her for its own unique "purr-sonality" and see them for the treasure they are!
