I have two American Short Hairs; one is five, and one is two. They have very diverse personalities. My two-year-old cat will only come up to me, and runs away whenever my husband enters the room while my five-year-old cat will come running up to anyone who enters the house.

They do need constant brushing during the spring, I can brush at least two cats worth of hair from each one. My cats also have a habit of kicking their litter out of the litter box before going to the bathroom.

As for care, they're easy to care for aside from the springtime shedding; they don't need any extra time or care. And as long as they have food in their food dish and a few extra toys laying around, are pretty self-sufficient.

My cats are great with my baby too, every time she cries they run to check on her. My two-year-old cat will even sit and lick my daughters hair.
