My oldest pet by far was my beloved cat Mittens. He had a short coat which he kept impeccably clean and would follow us kids around the farm better than any dog. He kept the mice in check in the barn but my sister was not impressed that he left them lined up on the top step for her.
He was an indoor/outdoor cat and refused to use the litter box even when he got old and it was really cold outside. As he got older his nails would get way too long so I would need to trim them regularly. I would usually get three feet done before he remembered that he didn't like that at all.
Very good tempered, cuddly, and would stay away from the big dogs if they bothered him.
