We got our cat from a rescue right before graduating college. She had been in the shelter for 2.5 years, though she was as sweet as can be when we went to meet her. She has a fun personality, and loves to play. However, we were expecting a much more cuddly cat. She is independent, and will come to sit on our lap only on her terms. She definitely was't handled much in the shelter.
If you're getting a kitten, be sure to handle them often! We got ours as an adult, and were fully prepared to deal with whatever issues she had.
She is great with our dog, and our newest kitten. She can be quite vocal in the early morning when she know's it is breakfast time. What's fun, is that cat's can be trained too! Before we got a dog, we taught her to 'sit' and 'high-five' in order to get treats. She can do both one and two paw high-fives, which is really cool! don't be afraid to try new things with your pets, the more you play with them, the more you bond, and the happier your cat will be.
