We rescued Billy from The Humane Society in Fairbanks, Alaska as an 8 week old kitten. He was a very easy going, hardy cat who traveled all over the United States with us. His claws were intact and the only 2 complaints I had about him were that 1) not matter what we gave him to use as a scratching post he always scratched the sides of our couch, and 2) he vomited a lot. Despite several visits to the vet, and several dietary adjustments he was labeled a chronic puker.

Generally speaking cats are wonderful companion animals. American shorthair cats do shed, and you will need to scoop their litter boxes daily. Aside from that expect a cat who will snuggle (on his/her own terms) and bring you years of sweet companionship.
