I've had Trixie for a little over a year at this point and she's the perfect fit for me. She's easygoing and doesn't scratch up the furniture (she has a scratching post that she uses). She grooms herself and isn't as hyper as other cats I've seen. She's playful, but only when she feels like it. She does like to cuddle and lay on the couch a lot, but when company comes over she's nice and well behaved (as far as cats go anyway).

I can't think of any negatives, because she was easily trained to use the litter box, and as mentioned previously she doesn't scratch at the furniture. I would definitely recommend an American Shorthair as a pet!
