This cat has been wonderful. My family has had a number of cats over the years and they've all been wonderful, but this one in particular has been a treat. While I've noticed some variance in "needy-ness"among the different shorthairs we've had, overall I'd say the cats are independent. They are friendly and definitely feel like part of the family, though. They work well with kids and especially with other pets. We have dogs and cats and have never had problems with them. The one major downside is that they tend to shed a lot. But as long as you're willing to do a little extra work to clean up after them, I would highly recommend.
