Dapper Black Gentleman: why black cats are great

United States

The American Shorthair is a product of interbreeding between various close coated breeds in the US. They generally have great health due to hybrid vigor, and the short coat makes for less hairballs and almost no grooming. This breed varies in temperament, but I have interacted with more friendly and easygoing ones than skittish or aloof. These cats do all tend to have big appetites, so watch out for expanding kitty waistlines. The black American shorthair is particularly beautiful, with a sleek and shiny appearance. If you are adopting, consider giving one of these a home; black cats tend to be unfairly passed over for adoption.
