My Amerian Shorthair was my very first pet, and I'm glad that he's still with me after 16 years. He is the best cat I've ever been around.
He is very affectionate with everyone, from our family to any friends or even strangers who happen to come by. He loves being picked up and carried, beginning to purr almost immediately. He'll also follow me when I go for walks, no matter how far I decide to go.
He catches mice and leaves them as gifts for me on the porch. I'd be more upset with him if it weren't for our awful mouse problem in this area. Still, he's only caught birds once or twice, despite their abundance.
He's a very healthy cat and grooms himself. All we need to do is check him for scratches or ticks.
He's a wonderful pet, and I would recommend the breed to anyone interested in getting a companion cat.
