Meeko came to me by way of my sister who owns a very large ranch with a gazillion cats running around. Meeko caught my eye because he was the only one that was solid grey and would actually get close to humans. I asked my sister if I could catch him, could I keep him? She was thrilled to have one of that cats have a good home, so she agreed.
When I caught Meeko and took him home, it took about one week for him to finally stop hiding and venture out to look around. It took about another week until he would not run when a human walked by him or moved from their stationary position.
I had two other cats at the time and I think that really helped Meeko to adjust better because he'd watch them interact with the humans and realize he was safe and that the humans were the ones to feed him so he didn't have to catch his own prey.
About a month after coming to live with us, he settled into domestic life and really blossomed. He and the other two cats were really good friends and would play chase all the time. We had a cat tree with a box at the top and the game was the first one to the top got to be king of the box. That also meant the king got to swat whomever dared to put their head into the box!
Meeko was the first cat I ever had to dance! Have you ever seen a cat dance? It's truly amazing! They watch what the human does and will mimic the pose or posture and if the human happens to be dancing to music, so does the cat!!
Meeko was a great cat and I really miss him. He was really fun and athletic and easy to care for. His personality was one in a million and I wish I could find another cat just like him!
