I acquired Ace, an American Shorthair cat, about one year ago. From the beginning, he was very affectionate and friendly. He learned how to use the litterbox right away and has required zero training. At one year of age, he is a playful, friendly cat. The only complaint I have about him is that he often tries to run out the front door. All in all, I would definitely recommend an American Shorthair cat as a pet for most anyone. They require minimal care and grooming and don't mind being left at home alone.
