Ambivalent Towards My Cat

My boyfriend's friend had a cat who gave birth to a litter of kittens and my boyfriend really wanted one. I didn’t want to disappoint him, but this cat has made me realize that I’m more of a dog person. He’s still just a baby (not even a year old) so of course he’s a bit of a terror. He’s ruined the blinds on two of our front windows, has knocked over everything on our TV stand, and his favorite activity is getting into his litter box and flinging litter and poop around the bathroom and stinking up the whole house with poop smell. As soon as I clean it up, he’s right back in there making it worse. On the plus side, he’s funny when he chases his toys around the house, he loves to play fetch with his stuffed mice like a dog, and when he decides to cuddle up with you (which is rare, usually just for warmth), it is very cute. But honestly, if for whatever reason we had to give him up, I wouldn’t be too broken up about it. Now my boyfriend says he wants to get another cat, so we’ll see how well that turns out.
