I absolutely love my cat with all my heart! She will be 16 yrs old in April. She was given to me from a friend back in 2003 because my friend was pregnant and had 5 cats! Pumpkin was an indoor/outdoor kitty and was never declawed. When I got her at age 4, I could not bring myself to have it done either. It would have been more painful for her than if she were a kitten. I did make her become an indoor cat as I was so afraid of losing her. She did get out on occasion but always came back! I was in a very bad place in my emotional state at that time and she made everything better! I found myself going home quickly just so I could play with her. She loved to play and loved to be brushed. I tried to give her a bath once and she crawled up my back to the top of my head! Needless to say, that was the one and only bath that I ever gave her. Pumpkin is a very good traveler too. I lived 300 miles away from my parents while I was going to college, and she came home with me every time. Unfortunately, recently, her bloodwork showed that she has the beginnings of kidney failure. It will break my heart when I have to make the decision to put her down but I am positive about preserving her quality of life, and I do not want her to suffer. She is just like my own baby, and she literally calls me "mom"! It is clear as day when she says it. My son and I love her so much! Pumpkin even attacked me when my son was a baby when he cried. She thought I was hurting him and was trying to protect him. She loves him as much as he loves her! I will miss her so much when God calls her home. :(
