My Calico Girl—Sophie

Sophie is my 10 year old calico. I got her when I got my first apartment, and she has followed me through half a dozen homes over the last 10 years. She has been able to take the moves quite well, and adjust without any nervousness issues (like loss of hair, throwing up, or any other anxiety habits cats can get). She is also terrific in the car, though she hardly goes in one now.

She has been on the small side her entire life—about 9lbs, and she tends to find one or two places she feels the most comfortable and stays there. Plus, do not expect to see her out and about in a room full of strangers. She won't hide under the bed, but she will stay in one of her safe places.

Sophie is one of the most intuitive cats I've even had. I like to say that if I lived in a house with a ghost, Sophie would know. She picks up on everything. She's the first one around when you are sad or upset, she knows when she's going to the vet almost 2 days before the appointment, and that is the only time she will really hide.

She's not the biggest fan of dogs, but will tolerate them as she has lived with multiple breeds over the years (both big and small), as long as they mostly leave her alone too.

While she is shy and stand-offish to strangers, she's very affectionate to those she's close to. She loves to cuddle with her humans in her safe areas (like the bed), and she's pretty quiet unless she's out of food (we free feed) or I've opened a can of tuna (her favorite). She's been a great cat over the years.
