My family found our American Shorthair outside of our grandmother's house and took her home when I was 8. I'm 20, and my mom still has her. She was skinny and very young. She litterbox trained immediately. She's always been gentle and playful. She's very maternal (she would walk my little sister and I to the bus stop every other morning). She grooms herself, kids, the dog, and sometimes the couch. She's funny and talks to you. She's so smart. She's been healthy her entire life and is still going strong. She was very active and playful when she was younger, and while she is still playful she mostly stays inside and lies around now. She hunted birds, mice, and snakes. She's caring (she'll come lie on anyone who is sick or sad). I don't know anyone who doesn't love our cat. She cuddles up to strangers and family members alike.
There is one con: she sheds a lot. But after twelve years you get used to it.
