I think each person is either a cat person, or their not. Thankfully I definitely am a cat person. I've seen so much love from the cats I've had over the years, and it has really enriched my life.

The only types of cats I've had are American Shorthairs. In my experience with them, the way they turn out is dependent on how they are raised. If they are raised in a loving, nurturing environment without negative reinforcement, they almost always grow up to be loving, wonderful cats. I feel that any complaints you get about this breed or cats in general is due to improper techniques when raising them. Sure some may just have a weird personality, but becoming what some might say is a "terrible" cat is not the fault of the cat itself.

Pros: Short hair so no extra grooming required generally, intelligent, playful
Cons: Hair still sheds (can't get away from this can you?), coloration typically isn't as beautiful as some other breeds

The American Shorthair is just a great normal cat to have! I've never wished I had a different type of cat for any reason.
