American Shorthair Review

The American short hair cat is a great family cat. In their younger years, they are hunters and will bring small rodents or birds to the front step as a way of showing their owner that they love them. They are pretty low maintenance and as long as they are allowed, they will roam around outside for a good part of the day and find their way back home when they are ready. They love heat and will sit in the direct sunlight or right next to the fireplace. American shorthairs are loyal and they can be perfectly happy surrounded by company or by being alone. The two American shorthair cats that I have owned have always worked well with other animals and small children. For the most part, they keep to themselves and don’t engage. If a dog or child approaches them, they usually remove themselves from the situation. However, when they develop bonds with their owners, they can be very affectionate. If you’re lucky, they will sometimes even cuddle with you if they are in the mood. They eat moderately and only need grooming once in a while to maintain a clean coat. They are a great part of the family and they are generally quiet, although they do have a tendency to want to “talk” to you and sometimes, they even sound like they’re actually speaking. A cat like this will definitely save you money on mouse traps and they make a great companion to have around.
