Living on a farm, we tend to get overrun by mice if we don't keep a cat or two around - and the American Shorthair is by far the best mousing breed I've found. We've owned three of them over the years, and they've all been wonderful hunters and easy to care for. All three of them have distinct persinalitites: Mittens is loud and always wants attention, Tigress hates to be picked up but will sit on your lap all day if she crawls there, and Clark is silent and tends to roam away for long periods of time. If you're looking for a mouser who is happy to play with you, this is the breed you want.
