I've been fostering an American Shorthair, Sammy, for a few months now. I would love to keep her permanently, but already have two dogs and two cats, which is pretty much maxing out my limit with the landlord. Also, Sammy hates dogs. I thought she would adjust. My dogs are very cat friendly and incredibly non-threatening (the cats definitely rule the roost around here), so I assumed Sammy would get used to them over time, but she definitely has not. She likes to stay off the ground, away from them, and when they come near all her hair stands on end and she growls this low, guttural sound. The dogs are terrified of her. Other than that, she's great. Super friendly and sweet. Loves to sleep on the pillow right above my head and wake me up in the morning by nuzzling my forehead, which I find adorable. She's very clean and rarely needs extra brushing, although often I do it anyway just because she loves it. She gets along well with our other cats and loves to play or sit in the window and watch what's going on outside.
