Misty and her kittens showed up in our garage one spring. Being animal lovers we 'took them in' though they remained outdoor cats.
To me Misty was the typical cat in that she was more interested in doing her own thing than what I thought was appropriate. It was not uncommon for her to leave her kittens for hours at a time even while they were still completely dependent on her. Once she disappeared and the neighbor stopped by to let us know that she had been hit by a car. I went to check things out and the markings sure looked like hers. We called for her just to make sure but she never came so we buried the body. We even had her kittens there to 'say goodbye.' An hour or so later she came strolling up almost mocking our efforts. (Yes I dug up the grave and checked if the other body was still there :)
Misty was a good cat but we ended up giving her to another family because we felt she didn't play with our children enough.
