I have owned many American Shorthair cats throughout my lifetime. Each one has had a personality all its own, but they have always been friendly and loyal. My current cat, Zim, has always been a pleasure. He adapts quickly to changes and I have never had any issues with him using the litter box. We found Zim in a cardboard box on the side of the road. He was a handful at first, but calmed down as he aged. He can be a bit feisty when with other cats and dogs, but in a playful way. As far as health issues are concerned, I have yet to experience any with him.
The great thing about American Shorthair cats is that they are incredibly easy to maintain. These cats are easy to groom and do not shed much. These cats can also be very loyal to their owners. They love to purr and are always waiting to greet you when you walk through the door. All of the American Shorthairs that I have owned have always been affectionate and tend to be even more loving when you are feeling down or upset. They make great companions and if exposed to children from early on, these cats can be great family pets.
