The American Shorthaired Cat this is a very sturdy animal that was made to catch mice, and they do their job well. They have large, powerful, athletic bodies that allow them to “work” for their keep. For the most part, these cats are healthy, low maintenance, easy going animals. The American Shorthaired Cat is very affectionate and social even with strangers. They seem to love attention and care; they need regular vet checks and yearly vaccinations.
The males when full grown weight between 11 and 15 pounds and the females’ weight between 8 and 12 pounds and they should be fed a quality diet to ensure their health.
These are beautiful cats with a great personality; they are found in over 80 different colors, and can live to be over 15 years old. My family had one of these cats when I was a child; she lived to be 21 years old. We all loved her; she was very affectionate and loving. Over the years, we have had many of these cats on our dairy farm they have been instrumental in keeping the mouse problem at bay.
