I received my Smokey as a gift and as a kitten. She was given to us fairly early so it was easy to train her to our ways. As an American Shorthair, Smokey lived up to her breed's reputation as an energetic and loving cat. Sometimes she had too much energy and needed constant attention. We ended up getting another cat so that she had a companion, however, while they played nicely with each other Smokey tended to want human contact more.

My American Shorthair loved when we had company and played very well with strangers and little kids. Although, I don't recommend that this breed of cat live in a house with smaller aged kids because they are too playful. Our cat had claws and would scratch a lot when she got too excited.

She was very easy to take care of and enjoyable to be around. If you're looking for a cat with as much energy and need for love as a dog, this one would be a sure bet!
