Cats make excellent apartment pets

I grew up on a farm and had lots of outside cats growing up, but I never really considered myself a cat person. I never thought I would own an indoor cat. However, I spent four years listening to my son beg for a baby kitty and finally broke down and got one for him. Zelda has turned out to be the best pet I have ever owned. She is very low maintenance and is a family pet who is attached to everyone, not just one specific person. I can even leave her home alone for long weekends, and she is fine as long as I make sure she has plenty of food, water, and an extra litter box. If you are going to get a house cat, I do advise that you get a female. My neighbor took a kitten from the same litter as Zelda, and he turned out not to be such a great pet. He was aggressive and sprayed a LOT. I have known a couple of people to have success with male cats indoors, but you really MUST get them neutered early on.
