I've owned many American Shorthairs, but this review is mostly just for my current cat Atticus. He's not much in the way of smarts, and he loooooves attention. But he's awesome, though he really likes to sit on my chest or next to my head while I'm sleeping and licking my nose. Loves to play, we have a toy with a feather on a string and he can't get enough of it. We have another cat and he can get kind of jealous sometimes when we pay more attention to him. Really likes to spread out in my lap, which is nice, but always does it when I'm busy doing something else, but it's nice when I'm reading a book or just watching the TV. He can be a little crazy sometimes too, I'll always be just sitting working on something and suddenly he'll run through the room, a sudden blur of fur, occasionally knocking things over. Love him to death though.
I just want you to know, that American Shorthairs are always different, they each have a unique personality. I highly recommend the breed but you should find one with a personality that fits your own.
