River is a wonderful pet. She is unusually social with me and my boyfriend, and will often jump into bed with us and insist on being let under the covers to snuggle. She isn't very social with new people though, and will often observe from a distance or hide when guests are around. With people that she sees occasionally, she is slow to warm up, but after 3-4 visits will nuzzle them and allow them to pet her, hold her, etc.

She is an indoor/outdoor cat, so flea control is the biggest issue. Because she has mild flea allergies, it is crucial that we stay on a 3 week flea medicine cycle (I use Advantage). This can get a little pricey, but its worth it! River isn't very picky about food, and will typically eat whatever brand I buy (I stick with Friskie's canned food and kibble). The only food she won't eat is the egg flavor (can't blame her there!). Between food and kitty litter, I probably spend about $20-25 per month on her upkeep (aside from the flea control meds of course).

My only real complaint is that she (like so many cats) will suddenly decide to complete a sprint circuit of my house at around 2 am for no apparent reason, but she doesn't usually knock anything over or cause any real destruction, so I can live with her late night workouts.
