We got one of these cats from a friend of ours when he was quite young and my family and I did enjoy owning this cat, even though we have had a few difficult experiences with it.

When we first acquired our cat (Kitty) it settled into our family well and was an adventurous cat that loved to explore. It grew up fast and was friendly with our family.
Our cat was easy to maintain and look after and was commonly out of the house which meant it was easy to look after.

It is worth noting that it liked to claw at our table chairs, even as a semi-mature adult and caused some damage. I think that for a first cat the american short hair is a nice cat to own and is generally friendly to people of all ages. Ensure that it is neutered and vaccinated.
