I've experienced this breed of cat to be really quite versatile and low-maintenance. We live out in the country, and so the cats have the "reign" of the house, barn, and fields. They cost little to feed and care for, and do well both indoors and outside. However, they are certainly not as patient or cuddly as the dogs we have owned, so don't expect your kids to enjoy them quite as much in that regard. They're also great for keeping the mice away! Can definitely be affectionate with one "owner", but usually has more distant relationship with other members of the family. If you want a cat, this is a good one...but don't expect it to be the ideal family pet.
