What else you should know:
Speak with your breeder, to make sure you are feeding your birds properly. Many long tailed breeds do not respond well to corn or soybean, and must be provided with a rice based diet. Protein should be added to their diet with ground bone, fish, or other meats. Fresh fruits, vegetables, bugs and grit should also be provided regularly.
If long tails are desired, then keeping roosters in individual pens with long perches is recommended.
Minohiki are very fragile, and have short lifespans. Breeding must be constant, or the breed will be lost. Most birds live approximately two years. To keep them alive that long proper housing, feed, care, and parasite control and prevention is necessary.
