It is an omnivore and does best on a diet consisting of varied food like crustacean flesh, mysis shrimp, and frozen preparations fed several times a day.
The Raccoon Butterflyfish is yellow-orange on the lower half of the body and is darker on the upper half. Around its eyes, the Raccoon Butterflyfish has a black patch. This patch has a broad white stripe to its posterior. Two yellow-bordered black stripes run from the white stripe to the dorsal fin.

The Raccoon Butterflyfish is best housed in a 70-gallon or larger fish-only aquarium with other Butterflyfish.
