Species group: Butterflyfish
Other common names:
Scientific name: Hemitaurichthys polylepis
This fish has a mostly white body with yellow fins. A white triangular pattern formed by the white color of the body juxtaposed by the yellow fins gave the fish its name. The head is black, which is useful when the fish needs to camouflage itself in the wild. Pyramid Butterflyfish have white caudal fins.
Considered a shy fish, Panda Butterflyfish require a lot of hiding places. They can be kept in an aquarium either in pairs or in small groups. In the wild, they usually swim in large shoals.
Pyramid Butterflyfish require a 100-gallon tank. They are considered reef-safe because they do not harass invertebrates. The tank needs to have a layout that includes ample amount of live rock, not only to provide refuge but also to serve as supplemental food source for the fish.
