Species group: Wrasses
Other common names:
Scientific name: Cirrhilabrus laboutei
The Laboutei Fairy is a bright-colored rare fish. The upper head and body of females is yellowish brown with three magenta stripes. The lower head and body is lavender and white. Juvenile females have red stripes with a small black spot at the upper base of the caudal fin. Males also exhibit the same linear pattern but have yellow edges on two magenta stripes.
The Laboutei Fairy Wrasse is not very aggressive. It makes good tankmates with invertebrates, corals, clams, and flatworms, but not with aggressive Wrasses.
A medium-sized tank of 30 gallons is ideal for the Laboutei Fairy. Plenty of rock and coral cover provides the necessary hiding and sleeping places. The Laboutei, like other Fairy Wrasses, tends to jump, hence, the aquarium cover needs to be always closed.
