While originally part of the Kawarimono group, the Kumonryu has such great symbolic value and has become so popular throughout the years that on several occasions it has been granted its own class at Koi Shows. The Kumonryu is a scales fish which harnesses an imaginary fight between black and white. It’s black lateral patterning against a snow-white skin can change due to circumstances. Kumonryu is also the name of one of the most honorable Samurai in a Japanese legend about the Suikoden. It also represents another even more ancient legend about a fight between a black and a white dragon. The very same legend that made Koi almost holy throughout Japanese and Chinese history.
